“ Mesicef-S injection contain Ceftriaxone and Sulbactam  is primarily used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and intra-abdominal infections. It is also effective for bacterial meningitis and serious infections that may lead to sepsis due to its broad-spectrum antibiotic action “.

Composition

       Sterile Ceftriaxone Sodium I.P.

       eq to Anhydrous Ceftriaxone 1000mg 

       Sterile sulbactam sodium I.P.

       eq to Anhydrous sulbactam 500mg

Uses

1. Bacterial Infections: Used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, urinary tract infections, and intra-abdominal infections.

2. Meningitis: Effective in treating bacterial meningitis and other central nervous system infections.

3. Sepsis: Used in serious infections that may lead to sepsis, due to its broad-spectrum activity against various bacteria.

Dosage

• Typical Adult Dose: The usual dose is 1 to 2 grams, administered via intramuscular or intravenous injection, once or twice daily depending on the severity of the infection. For more severe infections, doses may be increased.

• Duration: Treatment duration varies based on the type and severity of the infection but typically lasts from 5 to 14 days.

Mechanism of Action

• Ceftriaxone (Antibiotic): A third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, ultimately causing bacterial cell death.

• Sulbactam (Beta-Lactamase Inhibitor): Inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes produced by certain bacteria that can make them resistant to antibiotics. This enhances the effectiveness of Ceftriaxone by preventing bacterial resistance.

Side Effects

1. Gastrointestinal Issues: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain.

2. Injection Site Reactions: Pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site.

3. Allergic Reactions: Rash, itching, or severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) can occur in some individuals.

4. Hematological Effects: Possible effects include thrombocytopenia (low platelet count) or eosinophilia (high eosinophil count).

5. Liver Function: Elevated liver enzymes may occur in some patients.

Precautions

1. Allergies: Avoid use if allergic to ceftriaxone or other cephalosporins.

2. Kidney Function: Use cautiously in patients with renal impairment, as dosage adjustments may be necessary.

3. Biliary Sludge: Ceftriaxone can precipitate in the bile; caution is needed in patients with biliary tract disease.
